BOQ Rate Calculator
Build a BOQ item's quoted rate from material, labour and equipment cost, plus overheads and profit — the standard rate analysis method.

A rate analysis is only as good as the input costs — check current material and labour rates for your site before quoting.
How this is calculated
This follows the standard construction rate analysis method used to build a BOQ item's rate from the ground up:
Direct cost = Material + Labour + Equipment (per unit of the item — per sqm, per cum, per kg, whatever the BOQ unit is)
Cost with overheads = Direct cost × (1 + Overheads%) — covering site supervision, temporary facilities and head-office running costs
Final rate = Cost with overheads × (1 + Profit%) — the contractor's margin on top
Once you have this rate, it's the number that goes into the BOQ item's rate column, multiplied by quantity to get the item's contracted amount — exactly what CrewSense's BOQ module tracks per project, with the running-billed amount computed automatically as work is certified.
Common questions
How do you calculate a BOQ item rate?
Add material, labour and equipment cost to get the direct cost per unit. Add a percentage for overheads, then add a percentage for contractor's profit on top — the result is the quoted rate for the BOQ item.
What overhead percentage is typical in a BOQ rate analysis?
Overheads commonly range from 10% to 20% of direct cost depending on project size and duration, covering site supervision, temporary facilities and head-office running costs.
What profit margin do contractors typically add?
This varies widely by market and project risk, but 8-15% on top of cost-with-overheads is a commonly used range in Indian rate analyses.
